Eric was my teacher trainer and, once I completed my training, he became my mentor. Eric had a unique ability to improve my teaching skills while providing necessary encouragement and reinforcement. I think another of Eric’s assets as a mentor is his popularity with his students. In some ways it’s a shame he can’t hear my fellow trainees and I talk about him in conversation. Much of what we talked about when discussing him are the everyday kindnesses, support and friendship that he provides to us. At first I thought of this as a benefit outside of his yoga mentorship but I have recently come to realize that Eric’s yoga philosophy is all encompassing. As his mentee, I’ve learned more about yoga from him off the mat than on it. I can’t imagine a mentor who more effectively combines the technical knowledge of anatomy, asanas and yogic philosophy with the love and support of a friend.
